Iron Tsuba With Inlaid Floral Decoration – Japanese Work, Edo Period (17th–19th Centuries)
Iron tsuba in the mokko gata shape (six-lobed outline), decorated with stylized floral motifs harmoniously distributed on both sides. Beautiful patina.
The decoration consists of small flowers and rosettes inlaid with brass (suemon-zōgan), some in slight relief, forming an elegant and balanced composition.
The surface displays a beautiful, even, dark brown to black patina, with signs of wear consistent with age. The nakago-ana opening is classically shaped, accompanied by a hitsu-ana (probably for kozuka), confirming a sword hilt.
Minor marks and irregularities consistent with age.
The whole piece exudes a restrained and refined aesthetic, characteristic of decorative objects produced for a samurai clientele during the Tokugawa period of peace.
