Dogon Mask – Mali
Wooden mask with an elongated face, characterized by a protruding nose, a geometric mouth, and two large vertical protrusions. This type of mask is typical of the Dogon, a people of central Mali known for their Dama funerary rituals.
The incisions on the cheeks and forehead evoke symbolic scarifications. Worn during ceremonial dances, this mask accompanied the spirits of the deceased to the world of the ancestors, while protecting the community.
