Missal Box Or Case, Late 15th Century – Early 16th Century.
A wooden-core box covered in thick leather, entirely reinforced with bands and wrought iron fittings. The slightly domed lid is adorned with long, vertical fittings ending in stylized floral motifs, typical of late Gothic metalwork. A wrought iron handle in the center of the lid allowed for carrying the box. The front features an old-fashioned hasp closure. The sides and rim of the box are also highlighted with iron bands, providing both strength and ornamentation. This type of box was often used to protect and transport a small missal or liturgical book. It exemplifies medieval craftsmanship combining leatherwork and Gothic metalwork. European work from the late 15th or early 16th century. In good condition with age-related wear.
