JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Samurai Wakizashi. FUSHI and KASHIRA in a matching set in patinated copper, undecorated. TSUKA in wood covered with ray skin and leather braid. MENUKI in chased, patinated, and gilded copper depicting monkeys. KOZUKA in patinated and gilded copper depicting a ladle and a ringed staff on a basket-weave background. TSUBA mokko-gata in wrought iron with openwork. SAYA in wood and textured cinnabar red lacquer, kurigata in black horn, and a substantial iron kojiri. Simple habaki in copper decorated with oblique striations. Straight blade, regular, straight, and well-defined hamon, the tang pierced three times, unsigned. Sold with stand. Dimensions: 6.8 x 72 x 6.5 cm. Blade length including tang: 65.5 cm.
