Bohemian: Large Opaline Vase Signed Ahne, Late 19th Century

Artist: Joseph Ahne, Vers 1880
A superb Bohemian opaline vase, made around 1880, richly decorated with a hand-painted allegorical scene signed by the artist Joseph Ahne, a painter renowned for the refinement of his academic style and his romantic compositions. The scene depicts a draped female figure in the antique style, accompanied by a putto holding a floral garland. The whole is rendered in a soft and luminous palette, typical of luxury Central European productions at the end of the 19th century. The painting is executed with great precision: the modeling of the flesh, the transparency of the veil, and the realism of the flowers and drapery. The vase has a beautiful curved shape, characteristic of large Bohemian opaline pieces, and a base decorated with a subtle gold rim.
