Rare Turquoise Blue Opaline Sponge Pot With Gold Enamel Decoration, Circa 1850
Desk sponge pot with a turquoise-blue opaline lid, featuring a dynamic, tiered shape with a bulbous base. The body is adorned with a rich decoration of matt and glossy gold enamel depicting a continuous frieze of floral scrolls and delicate foliage, highlighted by broad gold bands encircling the base, neck and rims. The removable lid is topped with a flared, cup-shaped handle, the interior of which is delicately decorated with a wreath of flowering twigs painted in fine gold.
