Transitional Chest Of Drawers Stamped Léonard Boudin
Artist: Léonard Boudin
A Transitional commode opening with two drawers without crossbars. Richly ornamented with marquetry: On the front and sides, rectangular Greek-style sycamore frames are set against rosewood and amaranth wood backgrounds; these frame the interior spaces. The corners, rounded at the front, have simulated fluting, while the back has projecting edges; like the base, they are made of amaranth and rosewood. The backgrounds within the spaces are made of sycamore. At the center of the front, they feature a decoration of a bundle of military attributes against a vegetal background (flags, breastplate, quiver, fasces, sword, etc.). On either side, there is a decoration of antique-style urns whose unusual angular arrangement creates a perspective effect. On the sides, a vase motif and a truncated fluted column. Light wood stringing, boxwood, stained pearwood. Gilt bronze ornamentation. Molded white marble top with blue veining. Transitional period between the Louis XV and Louis XVI eras. Stamped Léonard Boudin, received as Master in 1761. Hallmark of the Guild of Cabinetmakers.
