Serpentine Two-drawer Chest Of Drawers, Venetian School, First Half Of The 18th Century

Important serpentine two-drawer chest of drawers, from the Lower Venetian area, attributable to the region of Ferrara, dating to the first half of the 18th century, at a moment of full maturity of the Louis XV style, still strongly influenced by Venetian tradition. The chest features a fluid and elegantly shaped structure, with a bombé front, giving the piece refined proportions and a strong decorative presence. The original legs, slender and gracefully curved, are fully Louis XV in character, with a curvilinear profile and a well-defined bacchiliera, entirely consistent with the period.Entirely veneered in walnut, the chest stands out for the exceptional quality of the wood selection and the high level of craftsmanship. The surface is enriched by an extremely refined walnut veneer pattern, arranged with great compositional sensitivity, creating geometric designs and dynamic fields solely through the orientation of the wood grain. The rich and lively walnut figuring, enhanced by the presence of walnut burl, gives the piece remarkable chromatic depth and material richness. The whole is elegantly framed and string-inlaid in maple, with thin, regular stringing that discreetly emphasizes the architectural structure without weighing it down. The top follows the movement of the front and is equally finely worked; it shows a slight undulation, entirely natural and consistent with the age of the piece, due to the physiological movement of the wood over time. From a conservation standpoint, the chest is in excellent overall condition: sound and stable structure, original back, original legs; restoration has been limited to a respectful exterior polishing only, without invasive intervention. A few small veneer elements have been replaced, carefully and discreetly. The hardware is antique, but not original. For the quality of its materials, the refinement of its veneer work, the balance of its proportions and its state of preservation, this chest represents a high-level piece, exemplary of the finest Ferrarese production under Venetian influence in the first half of the 18th century.Dimensions:Width 141 cm – Maximum depth 67 cm – Height 91 cmWe remain at your disposal for any further information, photographs or technical details.Worldwide shipping available with professional packaging.
