Pair Of Transition Period Chests Of Drawers
Pair of satin-finished chests of drawers, one opening with two drawers, the other with two doors. The top is in green Benou breccia marble and rests on rounded uprights finished with arched feet. The front is marked by a central projection. The bronzes are characterized by an antique corner drop and laurel tori handles.
Transition period
Usual restorations
H.94 x W.135 x D. 60 cm
These two chests of drawers are directly inspired by the chests of drawers developed by Jean-François Oeben and delivered for the Marquise de Pompadour at the Château de Ménars as well as for the Château de Chanteloup around 1770 for the Duke of Choiseul. This series of chests of drawers differs in their opening method, originally combining doors and drawers, frequently simply with drawers or, as for one of these two chests of drawers, with doors.
