Transitional Marquetry Chest Of Drawers. 18th Century

Elegant transitional chest of drawers in rosewood and violetwood veneer, opening on the front with three drawers in the waistband and two drawers in the lower section, arranged symmetrically.
The front, slightly a Ressaut , is richly decorated with geometric marquetry in butterfly-wing frieze and grecque frames, testifying to a work of great finesse.

The piece rests on small cambered legs ending in pretty ormolu sabots, already heralding the rigor of the Louis XVI style while retaining the suppleness of the Louis XV style.
The uprights are adorned with chased ormolu falls, matching the finely worked original keyways and pull handles.

The top is in veined Saint Anne gray marble, molded around the edges, perfectly fitted.

The interior of the drawers reveals fine craftsmanship, with meticulous assembly.

Parisian work from the second half of the 18th century, perfectly illustrating the so-called "transition" period, where rocaille elegance is balanced with a search for neoclassical symmetry and sobriety.
