"18th Century Bordeaux Commode, Bordeaux Port Workshops, Tomb Shape, Solid Mahogany "
A 13th-century Bordeaux commode in solid mahogany. In the Louis XVI style: a very representative example of these famous commodes. It comes from the Bordeaux port workshops, where mahogany arrived directly from the West Indies as part of the triangular trade. This piece of furniture was made during the reign of Louis XV and is therefore in the Louis XV style, following Parisian fashions – hence the characteristic curve of these well-known "tomb" commodes. The drawer bottoms (dovetail joints) are oak, and the handles and keyhole escutcheons are gilt bronze. All these parts are original. The reddish-brown mahogany top is in excellent condition, as is the entire commode, apart from a few minor restorations to the back. The drawers are also in very good condition. The legs are scrolled. Very fine overall execution faithful to the tradition of excellence of 18th century French craftsmanship. Dimensions: Depth: 65 cm (at the deepest point / top). Length: 125 cm. Height: 81 cm.
