Officer's saber of a light infantryman during the reign of Louis XVI. Gilt brass hilt, helmet-shaped pommel with a laurel wreath and long tail. Grip covered in sheepskin filigree with double twisted wire. Slightly arched knuckle guard with a broadly cut guard plate and two reinforcing rings in the middle. Separated secondary branches, the interior partially hidden by the decoration of a hunting horn crossed by two crossed flags. Flat-backed blade with a fuller and a single cutting edge and false edge. Montmorency style blade, gilt at the ricasso, formerly blued and gilt on one-third of its length, decorated with trophies. Remnants of a blade guard.
