Born in Pouilly-sur-Saône in 1869, Léonce Pelletier was a Post-Impressionist painter trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Dijon and in the studio of Gustave Moreau in Paris, where he met Henri Matisse. He was for a time a drawing teacher at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice. Léonce Pelletier painted landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. His canvases are regularly sold at auction.
