Pair Of Imari Trumpet-shaped Vases, Porcelain And Gilt Bronze, 18th And 19th Centuries, Compagnie Des Indes
Pair of Imari Cornet Vases, Porcelain and Gilt Bronze, 18th and 19th Century, Compagnie des Indes, Napoleon III
Pair of cornet-shaped vases with an octagonal section. Chinese porcelain with export decoration known as “Imari,” probably dating from the 18th century. Polychrome ornamentation in underglaze blue, red, and gilt highlights.
The decoration is organized in alternating vertical panels depicting terrace scenes with railings, perching birds, and blooming peonies, along with reserves on a cobalt-blue ground enhanced with gilt scrollwork and floral motifs.
The ensemble rests on a four-legged, chased and gilt-bronze mount in a neo-classical Louis XVI style, dating from the 19th century.
Note: Visible damage at the necks (hairline cracks, chips, and losses). Collector’s wax present under the bases. Slight warping to the bases—one of the four feet does not sit perfectly flat—without affecting the overall stability of the set.
