A charming small Louis XVI style roll-top desk in mahogany veneer, dating from the 19th century.
It opens with a cylinder to reveal an interior fitted with three small drawers and a storage compartment.
The fold-down writing surface is covered in green leather. The frieze opens with a central drawer flanked by two false side drawers. Seat height 65 cm.
The upper section forms a stepped section with three drawers and is surmounted by an elegant openwork brass gallery.
The piece is richly highlighted with finely inlaid brass stringing and framing, providing a decorative touch typical of Parisian production from the late 19th century. It rests on four fluted, tapered legs ending in brass sabots, characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The lock and key are functional.
With its elegant proportions, the quality of its mahogany, and the refinement of its brass ornamentation, this desk evokes the furniture produced in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine and the pieces made for the Parisian bourgeoisie around 1880.
