Collection Of Large Grand Tour Cameos In 19th-century Italian Terracotta, In A Gilded Romantic Frame
Artist: Non Signés
Presented in a magnificent and generous molded gilt stucco frame with rounded floral corners, and purple silk gani, this beautiful Louis Philippe period set comes from Tuscany (Castello di Sammenza label No. 4). These lovely large cameos, in the image of antiquity, mounted raw without glass, are presented as a cabinet of "Curiosities", in the image of the gods and goddesses of Greek and Roman mythology, subjects of the 19th century in a romantic Louis-Philippe setting. A delightful and high-quality collection of terracotta prints in varying shades, finely rendered and a definite decorative asset in the Neo-Classical style. A beautiful tableau composed of souvenirs from the Grand Tour, these pieces being mementos of the Italian journey undertaken by students of Art History and journeymen of the Compagnons du Devoir, a 19th-century pedagogy for the artistic initiation of budding young artists... A fine collection with excellent provenance...
