Carnival Of Nice, Engraving Signed And Dedicated By Paul Eugène Mesplès (1849-1924)
Artist: Paul Eugène Mesplès ( 1849-1924)
"The Carnival in Nice," an engraving signed and dedicated by Paul Eugène Mesplès (1849-1924). A French illustrator and caricaturist, nicknamed the "painter of dancers," a prominent figure in Belle Époque Montmartre, and also a musician and composer in his spare time, Mesplès also worked for the National Museum of Natural History. Our engraving is an illustration created for the Nice Carnival in the 1900s. The artist dedicated and signed the work in pen, in the lower right corner, "to Alain M......(name to be deciphered)." This engraving is mounted on cardboard and framed with a mat, which is itself glued onto the engraving. The piece is in used condition; we note some foxing and small tears around the edges (see photos). Shipping within mainland France: 15 euros; for other destinations, please contact us.
