- Léon Danchin, born in Lille on June 21, 1887, and died in Bergues on August 4, 1938, was a French sculptor, animal painter, and
   engraver.
- From a very young age, Léon Danchin was drawn to drawing and hunting, which became his two passions. - After training as a
sculptor under two great Lille masters, Jean Joire and Giacomo Merculiano, Léon Danchin devoted himself more specifically to
watercolor, then to printmaking. A creator of hyperrealistic animal art, particularly canine, he is recognized and esteemed
worldwide for his hunting engravings, imitated but never equaled.
- Danchin remains to this day the most popular animal artist of the 20th century among the general public.
