Monstrance-reliquary of the True Cross with authentic episcopal relic - early 19th century - with authentic episcopal relic (1823) - Rome.
Authentic silvered copper monstrance-reliquary of the True Cross, early 19th century work, resting on a molded circular pedestal and a turned baluster shaft.
Description:
The cross with trefoil ends is adorned with applied rays forming a glory around a central oval medallion, framed by a mount decorated with pearls and gilded foliate scrolls. In the center, under antique glass, is a relic of the True Cross (Sancta Crux DNJC), arranged in a cross on a red textile background.
The fragments are held together by threads and fixed according to Roman custom.
The reliquary is accompanied by its original authentication document on laid paper, printed and handwritten, dated 1823. Document signed by F. Basilius Tomaggian - Archiepiscopus Dyrrhachiensis
The text specifies the official recognition of the relic and its sealing: “…ex authenticis locis recognovimus… bene clausa et funiculo serico coloris rubri colligata ac sigillo nostro signata…”(recognized as authentic, duly closed, tied with a red silk thread and sealed with our seal)
Episcopal seal in red wax present on the document.
Height: 23 cm.
Condition:
Antique silver plating with consistent wear and a uniform patina - Mount intact - Antique glass in place - Stable reliquary.
Original document with traces of creases and old damp stains, consistent with its age.
Hinged base for document storage.
