Created during the second part of the 19th century, this devotional statuette is a spectacular example of religious craftsmanship in the 19th century, in France, where these statuettes were made by local religious, sold for the parish to visiting pilgrims.
Miniaturized, placed on a four-legged base serving as a throne for its grandeur, this Virgin and Child represents Our Lady of the Thorn (it is marked on its base), an important basilica located in the village of l'Épine in the Marne.
Its style is representative of its basilica: the Gothic and more particularly the so-called 'Flamboyant Gothic' style. The arches intertwine, the geometric structure is mixed between order and freedoms. It is a style that well emphasizes the importance of the Christian faith in France, especially in the 19th century.
