"Robert Rigot's Large Owl."
A very rare and large stylized owl sculpture in Baccarat crystal. Designed by Robert Rigot (1929-2023) and signed with a stylus. Baccarat hallmark. Dated 1974. Limited edition (numbered 78/200). Height: 47 cm. Winner of the first Grand Prix de Rome, Robert Rigot resided at the Villa Medici from 1955 to 1959. He was Artistic Director of Baccarat Crystal from 1966 to 1996. “Nature became Robert Rigot's interlocutor in a dialogue with matter where space and light led him to create a bestiary of lyrical forms and a classically expressed humanity, whose movement is integrated into the fullness of the volume. An organic sculpture born from the chosen material in an intellectual process that does not preclude the expression of the artist's sensuality. Ultimately, bird, ant, or grasshopper emerge from a free interplay of constructive lines deployed in space, from planes fragmented by voids through which light passes through the volumes, animating them with a particular vibration. For Robert Rigot, sculpture carries his questioning and his answer to the mystery of nature.” Lydia Harambourg, French art historian, art critic, writer and exhibition curator.
