Authentic and remarkable circular reliquary in filigree silver, forming a rosette with eight radiating lobes, entirely composed of hand-crafted scrolls and twisted volutes.
The work is of great finesse, typical of 18th-century Mediterranean or Iberian production.
Description:
At the center, a relic identified as: “Spina DNJC” (Spina Domini Nostri Jesu Christi – Thorn of Our Lord Jesus Christ).
The thorn is placed on a red textile background, framed by gilded paper filigree forming a radiating decoration, according to the Baroque tradition of Passion reliquaries.
The whole is carefully mounted in a circular silver lunette.
On the reverse:
Intact closure with red silk threads - Well-preserved ancient ecclesiastical wax seal - Present ancient textile ribbon. The integrity of the threads and the seal attests that the reliquary has not been opened.
Condition:
Very good overall condition. - Even antique patina on the filigree - Normal surface oxidation for its age - Antique wax seal with age-related wear but complete.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
