Plaster sculpture representing a bunch of asparagus, inspired by the famous painting The Bunch of Asparagus, painted in 1880 by Édouard Manet.
In 1880, the art collector Charles Ephrussi commissioned Manet to paint a still life of a bunch of asparagus for 800 francs. Upon receiving the work, he ultimately paid him 1,000 francs. Touched by this gesture, Manet decided to give his generous patron a second, smaller painting entitled The Asparagus.
He accompanied it with a now-famous note: "One was missing from your bunch."
This sculpture pays homage to this emblematic anecdote in art history and to Manet's mischievous spirit.
A hook on the back of the sculpture allows for wall mounting or flat display.
