A Heavy & Large Ornate Islamic Two Tone Bronze Ornate Ewer Dragon Handle

Monumental Islamic-Style Two-Tone Metal Ewer with Dragon-Form Handle and Spout, Possibly Anglo-Indian or Moroccan, Late 19th–Early 20th Century

A heavy and highly decorative Islamic-style two-tone metal ewer, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, and possibly of Anglo-Indian or North African (Moroccan) influence. The vessel features a dark metal body, possibly iron or bronze, richly accented with extensive brass overlays, creating a striking contrast in tone and texture.

The ewer is boldly modelled with a large spherical body resting on a flared brass base, an elegantly curved spout, and a dramatic arched handle, both terminating in finely detailed dragon head zoomorphic forms, lending the piece a powerful sculptural presence.

A prominent brass applique to the front of the body forms the Arabic script for “Allah,” serving as both decorative and symbolic focal point. Additional brass ornamentation and engraved detailing enhance the ceremonial and architectural character of the piece.

Due to its large scale and weight, this object was likely intended as a decorative or ceremonial vessel rather than for practical use, and may relate stylistically to oversized berrad (teapot) forms produced for display in Islamic Revival or colonial-era interiors.

A commanding statement object, ideal for display in an entry hall, on a pedestal, or within a curated collection of Islamic or Orientalist decorative arts.
