19th-century Oriental Quran Case – Silver-plated Metal, Bone, And Stone Cabochons
A very beautiful and original 19th-century Oriental Quran case, featuring remarkable decorative work combining finely engraved silver-plated metal, polychrome bone plaques, and colored stone cabochons.
This case is distinguished by its architectural shape with a raised upper section, evoking the arches and decorative elements of Islamic architecture.
The front is entirely adorned with bone plaques featuring geometric and floral designs, painted in red, blue, green, and black on a light background.
These elements are framed by delicate silver-plated metal mounts, engraved with plant and geometric motifs, accented with red and turquoise stone cabochons.
The sides feature an inlay of bone plates, while the reverse, entirely clad in metal, displays a rich engraved and repoussé decoration, with a central cartouche bearing a calligraphic-inspired inscription.
Two metal rings on the sides complete the piece, presumably designed to accommodate a cord or a suspension system.
The upper section forms a hinged lid, providing access to the interior of the box.
