Beautiful fossil ivory mammoth molar (Mammuthus aff. primigenius). Late Pleistocene, approximately 30,000 to 11,700 years ago. From a gravel pit in eastern France. Formerly in a private paleontological collection. Rare fossil ivory mammoth molar, a very rare specimen for this locality. Two bladelets have been reattached (visible in the photos), without detracting from the beauty of this piece. (Separation due to transport of the fossil). Massive tooth. Stabilized fossil.
Very attractive surface patina due to transport, burial, and polishing by the surrounding lacustrine sands.

Mammuthus primigenius is an extinct species of proboscidean, known only from fossils, not listed in CITES. The sale of his remains is therefore permitted. It is fossil ivory.
