An imposing and exceptional Minja figure collected in the Amaki area (Nokuma ethnic group) of Papua New Guinea. The Minja figure represents a water spirit and is synonymous with fertility. This figure, which symbolizes the yam's growing season in the ground, is used to celebrate the harvest of these sacred tubers during the second ceremony in a three-part cycle. Hard wood with a crusty patina. Faces and birds are carved in relief on the lower part. A single piece sold with a display stand.
