Etienne Dinet - Gouache - Orientalist Scene

A delightful gouache/watercolor by the renowned Orientalist painter Etienne Dinet, depicting a flute player tending a campfire under a starry night.

This is a preparatory work for Dinet's oil on canvas "Flute Player, near Laghouat, 1897" (46 x 72 cm) – see the last photo for comparison.

PROVENANCE: Collection of the Orientalist painter Paul-Elie Dubois (1886-1949), then by descent.
Paul-Elie Dubois was a friend of Etienne Dinet and his sister Jeanne, whom he knew in the 1920s.
