17th Century Wall Console Carved With Gilded Corinthian Acanthus Scrolls.
A very fine 17th-century wall-mounted console table in oak, powerfully carved with gilded Corinthian acanthus scrolls. The clean, monochrome brown surface is edged with a dotted pattern of colors reminiscent of faux marble. The scroll carvings are particularly striking, remarkably crafted from a thick piece of wood with an exceptionally deep back; the reliefs of this superb console are very characteristic of the tall supports of Corinthian capitals.
The gilding is perfect.
A heavy piece in excellent condition.
