Clock Portico Marble Brocot Charles X 1840
A superb Charles X period portico clock, circa 1840, remarkable for its
refined combination of mercury-gilt bronze and fine gold, and an
exceptionally high-quality black marble with a deeply luminous and
meticulously polished surface.
Its classical architecture, with four round columns resting on finely chased bases and capitals, lends the piece a noble and perfectly balanced presence. The generously sized dial is delicately adorned with a border of chased water leaves. Its center reveals an elegant, radiating spiral guilloché pattern, highlighting the perfectly legible white enamel rim.
The particularly imposing pendulum is richly decorated with a sumptuous floral motif, adding movement and refinement to the whole. The façade is enhanced by two sculpted friezes of stylized acanthus leaves, scrolls, and foliage, illustrating the full decorative expertise of the Charles X period.
Original mechanism, unaltered, striking the hours and half-hours on an antique bell.
