It is entirely original, including the plume and the mane. This type of helmet was worn until the beginning of the First World War.
The bowl, visor, and neck guard are made of nickel-plated steel.
The crest and headband are made of brass, enhanced with splendid gilding, 90% of which remains. The headband is decorated at the front with a flaming grenade and laurel leaves. The crest features a medusa mask at the top. Its sides are decorated with gadroons, palmettes, and water leaves. Finally, the whole is surmounted by a stylized plume holder and scarlet horsehair (known as a marmouzet).
The chin straps are of the officer's type, decorated with stylized scales and rosettes adorned with laurel leaves in gilt brass. They are mounted on leather chin straps covered in black velvet.
Long original horsehair of 90 cm. The period plume, made of tricolor feathers, identifies a staff officer. The plume is complete with its silver bullion officer's "olive".
The original inner lining is made of black leather decorated with a gold frieze. The visor is covered with black leather and the neck guard with beige leather.
Very good overall condition. Slight wear to the lining and a some old oxidation on the right side of the helmet (see photo).
Helmet height: 31 cm
