Pair Of Antique Vietnamese Bronze Vases, Archaic Chinese Style, French Indochina

A fine pair of antique Vietnamese bronze vases, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.

These vases are cast in bronze and richly decorated with archaic-inspired motifs, most notably prominent taotie-style masks in relief, surrounded by dense geometric leiwen (key-fret) patterns engraved across the body. The necks are further embellished with stylised vertical ritual motifs, reinforcing the classical inspiration drawn from ancient ceremonial bronzes.

The form, decoration, and execution reflect the strong influence of Chinese classical imagery within Vietnamese scholarly and ritual culture of the period, while remaining distinctly Vietnamese in character. Such vases were intended for decorative display, often within refined interiors or ancestral settings.

Both vases are closely matched, forming a true pair.
