"Neo-impressionist School. Ludovic Alleaume "the River In The Forest""
Neo-Impressionist school. Oil on canvas, "The River in the Forest," signed lower left L. Alleaume. 46.5 x 61 cm. French school. Ludovic Alleaume was born in Angers in 1859 and died in Paris in 1941. He studied under Ernest Antoine Hébert (1817-1908) and Nicolas Luc Olivier Merson (1846-1920) at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1883 to 1938. The museums of Angers, Laval, and Rio de Janeiro hold some of his works. (Sources: Bénézit, Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors). Beyond the Neo-Impressionist touch that characterizes our painting, the artist skillfully experimented with the techniques employed by the Fauves between 1905 and 1907. The painting dates from the 1920s, and we can assume that the artist explored, in its creation, not only the art of the Fauves but also a touch of Cubism, a technique he may have observed some of his colleagues practicing. The frame is carved, painted, and patinated wood in the Montparnasse style. Good condition. 950 euros.
