"Neo-impressionist School. Géo François "the Port Of Nantes Seen From The Quays""
Neo-Impressionist school. Oil on canvas "the port of Nantes seen from the quays" signed, located and dated lower right Géo François Nantes 1928 (date to be confirmed). French school. 53.5 X 72.7 cm. Georges François known as Géo François (1880-1968) was a student of Jean-Paul Laurens (1838-1921), he exhibited at the Salon, where he received a medal in 1914. The Bénézit dictionary of painters and sculptors lists him as a burin engraver born in Saint-Gourgon (Loir-et-Cher). Géo François was a traveling painter who left numerous paintings evoking the customs of the peoples of West Central Africa as well as those of the French Antilles. The finesse of the line, the soft palette used as well as the ethereal atmosphere which emerges from this view of Nantes, reminds us how much the training as a burin engraver that Géo François followed in his youth had a significant impact on his art. Silver-plated wooden frame from the period. Three small restorations, notably on the right at the level of the main mast and on the left, above the steps. Good general condition. 1200 euros
