"Germain Raingo - Lawn (1893-1963) Great-nephew Of Claude Monet, étang De Berre In Martigues"
Beautiful landscape depicting two fishermen in their boat on the Étang de Berre in Martigues. Very beautiful color. Our oil on panel was painted by Germain Raingo-Pelouse, great-nephew of the Impressionist master Claude Monet. It is signed in the lower left corner. His paternal grandfather, Ernest Raingo, was the older brother of Alice Hoschede (née Raingo), who later married Claude Monet. This family connection meant that Germain Raingo-Pelouse would always remain very attached to Vernonnet (so dear to Monet). He was also related to the famous Raingo brothers, renowned watchmakers, suppliers to Emperor Napoleon III and later publishers of Albert Carrier-Belleuse's bronzes. He studied under Fernand Cormon and Louis-Joseph-Raphaël Collin at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1910 to 1913. He painted landscapes, portraits, nudes, still lifes, and genre scenes. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1912 and then at the Galerie Visconti in Paris from 1921 to 1924. Bradtké in Luxembourg in 1950. Critics unanimously hailed him as one of the revelations of the Salon des Indépendants. It was said of him: "It is by seeking simplicity that he has moved towards mastery, and it is because he has remained sincere that nature has revealed some of its secrets to him." We are pleased to recognize in him one of the hopes of the post-war generation. Another critic of the time said: "Remember the name of Germain Raingo-Pelouse; this great-nephew of Claude Monet is powerfully 'himself,' his canvases foreshadow a great artistic destiny, 'classical and modern,' he is one of those through whom art progresses."
