Originally a beautiful woman, she was cursed by the goddess Athena and left with snakes for hair. Anyone who looked at Medusa would turn to stone. She lived in a secluded cave and was eventually beheaded by the hero Perseus, who used her head as a weapon. Medusa symbolizes danger, feminine power, and mystery, and remains a fascinating icon in art and literature.
