The Shoemaker On Visconti Street, Engraving By Solange De Bièvre
Artist: Solange De Bièvre: 1910- ?
Solange de Bièvre was a student of André Lhote and influenced by Dunoyer de Segonsac. She led a bohemian life as an artist in the Latin Quarter (rue Visconti), ending her days in poverty in a retirement home (https://www.ruevisconti.com/ImmeubleNoParNo/20.html). The painter Solange de Bièvre lived and worked on rue Visconti for over 15 years, from 1938 to 1951. The last photograph shows a picture by Ambroise Vollard dedicated to Solange de Bièvre. The engraving is unsigned but annotated on the back: "The shoemaker of rue Visconti." There are numerous stains, possibly oily, in the upper right corner.
