An important, intricately shaped, crossbow-shaped box in solid rosewood from the 19th centurie
. An Anglo-Indian piece made for trading posts in India at the time and for the English export market.
The rosewood is of superb quality, displaying alternating light and dark grain.
This box contains two tiers of compartments that close with lids inlaid with bone and various exotic woods.
The inside of the lid is itself decorated with a large flower inlaid with bone.
Each smaller lid features beautiful marquetry and bone inlay work.
The entire piece is complete and in excellent condition with a French polish finish.
The lid has a slight, inconsequential crack, visible in the photos.
Original lock, key, and hinges.
The two tiers of compartments can be removed from the box. An ideal box for a collector of jewelry, buttons, cameos, etc.
It could also serve as a very fine game box, etc. In any case, it is a superb box.
It is in perfect condition and without any flaws. Please note that for a box, the dimensions are significant and the weight of the solid rosewood is considerable.
