Probably a rather unusual allegorical figurine. The two figures are finely sculpted, and the scene may evoke a warrior's departure.
It is difficult to determine exactly whether this piece represents a mythological or biblical subject. One could also consider an allegory of betrayal with the kiss of Judas, as the figure on the right is reminiscent of Christ.
However, the figure on the left is more reminiscent of a mythological hero or perhaps a Roman centurion with a plumed helmet. In any case, the theme of the kiss remains unusual and gives this sculpture an undeniable and unexpected charm. Very fine carving with a beautiful, deep walnut patina.
Look closely at the sculpted details, including the centurion's clothing and his plumed helmet, and the graceful movement of the cloak of the figure on the right.
The sculptor's pose perfectly evokes a farewell kiss. Please look closely at the photos; part of the face is missing.
A beautiful carved wooden piece depicting an unusual allegory, featuring the figure on the right and a hand of the figure on the left.
