"Aslan (1930-2014) Bust Of Brigitte Bardot As Marianne Of The Republic"
Rare official bust of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic, depicting Brigitte Bardot - Authentic 1960s model by ASLAN (1930-2014), bearing the artist's handwritten signature engraved on the side and the Spadem stamp guaranteeing artistic ownership under the control of the Ministry of Culture. This version was produced under the direction of the Louvre workshop and is stamped on the base. The finely chiseled and detailed solid plaster statue perfectly captures the charm of the famous actress with soft lines, graceful curves, and a playful smile. In good original condition with a beautiful patina. Dimensions: 65 cm high x 35 cm wide x 20 cm deep. Note that an identical example was sold for €7,000 at auction on January 23, 2011, at Cornette de Saint Cyr, 6 Avenue Hoche, 75008 Paris (see photo reference 12). Created in the 1960s by Aslan, the sculpture marks a turning point in the history of the representation of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic. This period coincides with the height of Brigitte Bardot's popularity as an icon of French culture. Aslan's Marianne depicts Bardot in a sensual, slightly undressed pose, draped in the French flag, her head adorned with the traditional Phrygian cap. Quickly becoming famous, Aslan's Marianne helped shape the perception of Marianne as a republican symbol. It embodies the cultural and social changes that took place in France at that time. This personal initiative brought a bold edge to conventional representations of Marianne, given Aslan's artistic style, which focused on sensuality and eroticism. On the other hand, Bardot is a French icon, both as an actress and a symbol of beauty. This choice therefore gives the work a contemporary dimension. Indeed, the collaboration between the sculptor Aslan and Brigitte Bardot is an important step in the creation of this national icon. In short, Aslan's Marianne remains a captivating work of art that continues to inspire reflections on the identity and values of the French Republic. Its value is therefore significant in the eyes of art lovers and collectors; it remains an essential topic of discussion in the world of French art and politics. Brigitte Bardot, nicknamed "BB," is a vibrant French personality! An actress who became a symbol of freedom and seduction in the 1950s and 60s, she charmed the world with her unique style and rebellious spirit. Brigitte Bardot, known as BB, was a blend of grace, talent, and a touch of carefree spirit. After conquering the world of cinema, she threw herself wholeheartedly into animal protection, becoming a passionate activist. Her popularity stems from a blend of elegance, audacity, and commitment that continues to captivate generations. Always sparkling, BB remains a timeless icon who has left an indelible mark on the art world! ASLAN, whose real name is Alain Gourdon, this native of the Gironde region distinguished himself, among other things, as a sculptor. In the 1960s and 70s, he created busts of Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve as "Marianne" for the Association of Mayors of France, as well as a bust of General De Gaulle. In 1986, he sculpted a bust of the actor Alain Delon, and also painted his portrait on a 4x4 vehicle participating in the Paris-Dakar Rally to promote the star's perfumes. In 1987, he created the stone statue of the singer Dalida for her tomb in Montmartre Cemetery. The artist also designed numerous advertisements and show posters for the Folies Bergère, the Crazy Horse, and the Casino de Paris. Every month, from 1963 to 1981, he drew the famous pin-up girl of the month for LUI magazine. Defining himself as an intimate, hyper-figurative artist, he became one of the French masters of the hyperrealistic pin-up. Appointed Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2003, he died at the age of 83 on February 11, 2014, in Canada, where he had lived for about twenty years.
