A beautiful, finely chased gilt bronze clock. Aristaeus, a deity from Greek mythology, guardian of flocks and protector of the hunt, is depicted in shepherd's garb, wearing a petasos and carrying a sheep. An antique-style vase, spear, quiver, and bow are also included. The mantelpiece is decorated with a hunting horn, a wreath of flowers, a chariot, birds, and a boar. The enamel dial is signed Pierre Dupuis in Paris. The rectangular base features palmettes, scrolls, a mask, and heart-shaped motifs. The cylindrical feet are grooved. Circa 1810.
