Onion Watch, Early 18th Century, In Silver And Tortoiseshell, Studded, By Rodet In London, Circa 1715
A very rare early 18th-century silver and tortoiseshell watch by Rodet of London.
The champlevé silver dial features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. The hands are burnished steel.
The superb gilt brass movement has a verge escapement, chain, fusee, and an exceptional mainplate and balance cock entirely decorated with birds, foliage, and flowers.
The case is plain silver, and the outer case is double-layered tortoiseshell, entirely studded with silver.
