Mahogany Cabinet With Gilt Bronze Interlacing, 19th Century

A rare and elegant two-door cabinet in the Louis XVI style, made in the 19th century, remarkable for its noble proportions, the quality of its mahogany, and the richness of its finely chased and gilded bronze mounts. The front opens with two perfectly balanced doors, each adorned with sumptuous herringbone veneer, framed by light fillets forming delicately drawn reserves, characteristic of the neoclassical refinement of the Louis XVI period. The upper section is highlighted by a substantial openwork frieze in gilt bronze, of great finesse, punctuated by oval motifs and framed by fluted uprights, giving the piece an architectural elegance inspired by antiquity. The corner mounts with foliate decoration, the keyhole escutcheons, the handles, and the richly chased sabots all attest to first-rate bronze work, typical of the great Parisian cabinetmaking of the late 18th century. The piece rests on four tapered, subtly curved legs, terminating in remarkable gilt-bronze foliate sabots, lending lightness and distinction to the whole. It is topped with a white marble slab veined with gray and delicate pinkish hues, with a molded edge that perfectly harmonizes with the warm tones of the mahogany.
