An exquisite and spectacular credenza, Louis XVI style piece of furniture, made around 1830 by Maison Krieger, after the work of the eminent cabinetmaker Jean François Leleu. It features a body entirely in mahogany marquetry enhanced with a particularly fine gilt bronze decoration and a thick top in Caunes Minervois marble. It opens with a wide door and three drawers. It shows some signs of use such as very small surface nicks or scratches, and a small veneer chip (on the left side, visible in the photos), but we decided to leave the credenza intact, in its original and excellent condition, with the exception of a very gentle cleaning, as we did not want to alter the sublime cabinetwork. Stamped Maison Krieger on the back. Maison Krieger was founded in 1827 by brothers Antoine and Nicolas Krieger, both marchands-merciers and furniture makers. Maison Krieger became Antoine Krieger et Cie in 1850 and before the end of the 19th century, the company was one of the largest furniture workshops in Paris, located at 74 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine. Specializing in the production of various styles of French furniture, from Louis XV to the Empire, Maison Krieger was one of the most important manufacturers. Maison Krieger (manufacturer), Antoine Krieger (cabinetmaker).
