Large Sami hunting knife - Lapland, early 20th century or earlier. The Sami are an indigenous people of northern Scandinavia, Finland, and the bordering Russian region, traditionally reindeer herders and fishermen. The blade is probably a repurposed blade from a saber or bayonet. Straight blade with a flat back and single edge. Reindeer antler handle adorned with a polished agate pommel. Thick leather sheath, beautifully crafted with a wolf's head and a reindeer head. Weight 402g. Weight without sheath 288g. Length 49cm. Length without sheath 43.5cm. Blade length 25cm.
