Basque folk art - Milking chair, early 20th century or earlierTraditional Basque milking chair from the province of Soule. This chair comes from an old house in Mauléon-Licharre (Soule) built in the 17th century. A copy very similar to this chair is preserved and exhibited at the Basque Museum in Bayonne.https://webmuseo.com/ws/musee_basque/app/collection/record/71Here is the description and use indicated:Place of use: Soule Details of use: This type of chair, traditionally used for milking cattle, is sometimes converted into a child's chair. Description in natural language: Rustic chair with a round seat and a "V" shaped backrest set vertically in an extension of the seat top and topped with a crossbar with a bar inside. Given the similarity of the two chairs in terms of graphics, geography and dimensions, we can reasonably assume that they come from the same manufacturing workshop.
