Magnificent and very rare Meissen porcelain monkey orchestra (Affenkapelle), a German piece dating from around 1890.
The set comprises: 1 conductor and 18 monkey musician figurines (19 pieces in total) on bases adorned with rocaille ornaments in relief, highlighted with gold and decorated in polychrome.
The monkeys are marked with crossed swords in blue.
Model after Johan Joachim Kaendler.
The figurines are 13 cm tall, and the conductor is 17 cm tall.
The set is in a general good condition, with some minor damage due its age.
