Louis XV Style Chinese Lacquer Furniture
Artist: Rosel à Paris
Lovely 2-door lacquer cabinet with landscapes and still life scenes in the Far Eastern style; chinoiserie or japonism, a very popular style in France and Belgium in the late 19th - early 20th century; very good quality bronze ornaments in the rocaille style.
The interior is in mahogany with a folding door divided by horizontal and vertical shelves intended for documents.
The top is in Portor marble.
The back is stamped by the Maître-Ebeniste Rosel ; a high-end furniture maker active in Brussels , in a fluid French style ( op.cit.: Christopher Payne: European Furniture of the 19th Century ).
