""tampung" Box, Bamboo And Leaf, Indonesia, Lombok, Early 20th Century"
Rare, beautiful, and large traditional box known as a Tampung, for domestic use. Made of bamboo strips and plant fibers, dried banana leaves, this Indonesian folk art piece from Lombok dates from the early 20th century, circa 1900-1940. Its oval, cylindrical shape is finished in black and light patinated wood tones. It measures 16 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 11.5 cm deep. In very good condition for its age, it shows some wear consistent with age, including worn rush weaving in places and slightly loose strips, but the structure remains sound. One strip is missing, but this is very discreet. Approximately 80 grams.
