Oval Earthenware Dish From Moustiers, 18th Century – Olérys Factory
An oval Moustiers earthenware dish from the 18th century, attributable to the Olérys factory, recognizable by the delicacy of its design and the richness of its decoration. The center is adorned with a lively grotesque scene depicting a donkey playing the harp, accompanied by musical figures (a lute player) and a dancing jester, surrounded by small animals and insects—motifs characteristic of the Moustiers repertoire. The rim is decorated with stylized flowers and foliage, enhanced with touches of blue, green, yellow, and manganese, on a white glaze. The scalloped edge is highlighted with a thin border, accentuating the elegance of the form. In good overall condition, with signs of use and firing flaws consistent with the period.
